BAKE SALE UPDATE

Thank you to everyone who provided our students and Band Boosters with pies, cakes, cookies and other goodies for the Thanksgiving Bake Sale. Even in this "down" economy we did well. The final amount is $777.52, and we closed up shop around 3:00 pm because we were running low on baked items.

So thanks again for making our Bake Sale a success!

A FIRST FOR THE FIGHTING FARMER BAND!

For the first time in the history of the Farmersville Fighting Farmer Band, two students have been selected for the Texas All-State Band.

Performing with the best from Texas will be Junior trumpet player HAILEY FURR and Senior TRAVIS RODGERS on Bass Guitar. Not only did they "make" the All-State Jazz Band but Hailey was selected as First Chair trumpet and Travis was selected for the only Bass Guitar position open in the Band.

The process began on September 26th when these two students along with trombonist BEN BARBER earned positions high enough in the Regional Jazz Band to qualify for State taping. Their tapes were then sent to the State auditions which were heard in early November. The state has some twenty regions with qualifying students vying for these positions. While the actual number of tapings is unknown, there could easily have been several dozen auditions tapes submitted and heard at the State tryout.

Hailey and Travis will travel to San Antonio in February to rehearse with a renowned clinician for two days and then perform in a public concert on Saturday morning. The San Antonio venue is the home of the Texas Music Educators Association annual Convention, with almost 10,000 music teachers from across Texas as well as other states attending and listening to concerts for three days.

"We are proud of Hailey and Travis for this very high honor and the honor it also brings to the music program here in Farmersville," said their director, Richard Holbrook
